Many a story has been written about ships at sea. So many analogies have
been drown from The Lighthouse and its representation of Jesus, the
Light of the World that it is not hard for us to picture an open, storm
filled sea with reefs an rocks and other unseen dangers. It is not hard
to imagine a ship tossed by raging waves and turned by tempestuous
winds.
What would
disturb us would be to see two captains fighting for control, especially
when there is a virgin crew aboard. At times there is no captain, for
they have turned lose the wheel and are struggling with each other.
There is no direction, for all eyes have been diverted from the
Lighthouse.
The two
captains become so involved that their desire ceases to be just to guide
the ship, but to control all aboard the vessel. One captain looks up,
grabs the wheel and yanks the ship lee-ward, just missing a large rock.
“You see”, says one to the other, “if I had been driving, that would not
have happened. Fuss, fuss, fuss. “Get out of the way. I am the pilot
from now on”. “No, you’re not!” and the battle is on again. It is best
to decide who is captain before boarding and stick with it.
So it
should be in our Marriage. If your husband is captain, and he should be,
stop fighting him for control, lest the ship be lost, and all aboard is
destroyed.
So it
should be in our Christian Experience. If Jesus is the Captain, and He
should be, stop fighting Him for control, lest your soul be lost and
those who depend on you be confused.
