Once upon a time a man gave
his little baby girl a beautiful, multicolored balloon. When the
light shown on it, the colors seemed to just dance! Each day the little
girl would take her balloon with her. She took it nearly every
where she went - and especially when she went to the playground.
One day a little boy saw
the little baby girl playing with the beautiful, multicolored balloon
that her father had given to her. To the little baby girl, with the
beautiful, multicolored balloon, said to her, "I bet you can't balance
that on this (a pin!)?" "Yes, I
can!" said the little girl. "No, you can't!", said the little boy. "Yes,
I can!" "No, you can't!" "Yes, I can!" said the little girl. By that
time a lot of other children were saying "Bet you can't!"
He give her
the the pin. She held it, and played it up and down. Around and
around. And up and around. And she was having a good time. She was
playing with the head
of the pin.
The father happened to
look out of his window and saw the little baby girl was playing with the
pin. He quickly ran out to the little baby girl with a beautiful book.
He called his daughter and showed the book, and showed what it was
saying. It says, "How to take care of a beautiful, multicolored
balloon." "Page #1. Do not play with Pins."
Then the little daughter
did not want to play any more. She did not play for about... one week.
She did not feel good. "I am going to play one more time, and I will
stop playing with balloons. I am grown, and will do what I wish.
Yes, she saw all of the
other children on the playground. Yes, she saw the little boys and all.
She was going to play, anyhow. "You are back!" they cried! "Just one more
time, and show that you can play with that pin," they cried. "Yes, I
can, and I will," she said.
After a little time, one
of the young ladies said, "Can you turn it (the given pin) up side down?" "Yes, I
can!" said the baby girl, who had the beautiful, multicolored balloon
that her father had given to her.
And she did!
What she did not know,
was that all of the other boys and girls had done the same thing: played
with pins! They
did not listen to their fathers and mothers. They knew what the little
baby girl would get. And laughed.
