Once upon a time a man was searching for a Wife. He had run
advertisements in the local New Papers. He had paid several "ads" for the Radio
and TV Stations to notify the eligible ladies of his visit to their city. He had even
written a book about himself, which he freely gave to anyone who asked.
Those who wished his company could write an invitation to him and he
would visit them on the next morning. Subsequently he received several letters from
prospective ladies who described themselves and begged his company. He chose one letter
that decried its writer as a chaste and holy woman, full of good works and charity. She
had prayed that the Lord would send her a companion to be the head of her house and to be
as a husband to her. She said she felt that he was the chosen one.
Very pleased with the letter, the man decided to visit her the
following morning. Others had heard of his intended visit to the vicinity and opened the
doors, stood beside them and waited. By and by, the man found the neighborhood and started
down the street. He noticed that all the doors were open except one, and that was the one
where he was going. He knocked gently on the door and immediately the door opened a couple
of inches. It could open only a couple of inches because it had a retaining chain on it. A
beautiful woman dressed in white stood smiling on the other side. They could see each
other, but he could not get in. He wondered about this, but remembered her piousness and
said to her, "I had hoped that we could have dinner and discuss our agreements and
mutual desires to please God, but I see that you are all dressed to get married! Already,
already! This is your letter, isn't it?" Yes, she had written the letter. Yes, she
had prayed for a companion. Yes, she was willing to marry him. And yes, she would go with
him to the minister as soon as she put on her coat, it he could just wait right there for
a minute.
While he was waiting, he looked around at all of the other doors
standing invitingly open with their occupants waving and beaconing to him. After a while
the chosen lady came out of her door, locked it securely and went with him to the church.
When they returned to her house, MARRIED, the lady went inside and locked the door.
Surprised that he was still outside, he knocked gently again. Immediately the door
opened a couple of inches. The retaining chain was still on!
MORAL...Many of us treat the Savior the same way. Even after we have
publicly acknowledged acceptance of His Salvation, we keep Him locked outside.
Will you not let Him in today?........................
