Pierre Monteux, symphony
conductor, his wife and their French poodle were looking for a motel for
the night. Driving up to a group of cabins, they saw a woman standing at
the office door. As they approached she said shortly, "Sorry, I have
nothing."
A young girl standing nearby whispered to the woman,
whose whole demeanor underwent and instant change. Making a sort
of curtsy, she said, "Excuse me, sir, I did not know that you were
Someone. I think that I can accommodate you."
Monteux's face became cold and withdrawn. Bowing in a most
formal manner, he said, "Madame, everyone is Someone. Au revoir."
